Dr Hugh Bain BVSc MBA

Waiting RoomHugh graduated from Sydney University in 1983 and after working in places like the Central Coast, Adelaide and Broken Hill,  he started at St George Animal Hospital in southern Sydney in what was then one of the most progressive private practices in Australia.

After a few months he became the principle surgeon for two years gaining experience in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery which now can only be obtained in institutions like referral centres.

Hugh entered into a veterinary partnership with a Sydney University classmate and ran a couple of practices for several years until leaving to live overseas for a while, returning in 1998 and then buying Bateau Bay Veterinary Hospital.

Since returning, Hugh has undertaken seven one year courses in special interest topics through what was known as the Post Graduate Foundation in Veterinary Science (now called Continuing Veterinary Education), and currently has the record in that institution for courses undertaken. His spare time is mostly spent either under the water where mobile phones don’t yet ring,  or on top of it in a sea kayak. That is when he isn't doing veterinary courses.
